Mystic Hot Springs

This place definitely lives up to it’s name. It is MYSTICAL! So how did I randomly end up here one summer, eventually call them my family, and run their social media? Let me tell you!

It all started January of 2017. I had just gotten out of an almost 5 year relationship and was needing a big change in my life. In April, someone had mentioned WWoofing to me after I had said I wanted to get away for a bit. I looked into it and LOVED the idea. If you don’t know what WWOOFing is, it’s World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms. You basically live on these farms and work for a few hours each day. Sounded good to me so I signed up.

My heart was set on Hawaii. I told my friend I would be spending my summer in Hawaii and I really believed that. Fortunately, none of the farms I messaged had any openings for me…which lead me to looking elsewhere! I thought for sure California…that’s where I will go. Again, Either no response or just no availability. So I was a bit discouraged but I kept looking. Utah was absolutely no where on my radar….like no where. Utah might as well have been outer space to me.

But somehow I ended up searching through Utah farms and I saw Mystic Hot Springs. The image jumped out and punched me in the face because I had seen amazing Instagram photos of the outdoor bathtubs in the orange rock and I told myself I needed to go there! So I message Mike, The owner, and he responded immediately. Totally chill and welcoming, he said I could stay there no problem. I thought to myself this is too easy….no way is this happening. I mentioned I wanted to stay there the whole entire summer, still he responded with “no problem.”

So the plan was set, I put my two weeks in at my job, I was a custodian cleaning the schools I actually attended, and I started purchasing things I needed for the summer. I was going to be living in a tent so I thought I needed the cutest tent that I could possibly find, which of course was a teepee tent! $50 from Walmart…it ended up needing repairs, but overall I loved it so much and it lasted me the whole summer! I got a cozy little fold out bed from Costco that fit perfectly in my trunk, It’s still there when I need it.

I arrived May 30th after an incredible road trip by myself. My first time doing that! It was so liberating stopping where I wanted to stop and listening to the music I wanted. I walked in the office and met very briefly with Aubrey, Mike’s partner. She told me to just go ahead and find a spot in the campground to set up my house! I headed down there and was immediately approached by  what I thought was just a friendly camper wanting to help me but later found out was a complete creeper….we don’t need to go into that. But despite the creeper, I bonded with Aubrey and her daughter immediately and felt like a part of the family by day four. We even took some fun pioneer photos together :)

This story is getting long…and I feel like I’m not even near done. If you’re still here, thank you so much!

My duties…(hehe)….were to feed the animals, multiple ducks and chickens, four llamas, one goat and one emu, and help in the front office, checking people in and what not. Eventually I started running their social media as part of my work exchange and that was the absolute best! They have a music festival every July so I promoting for that with my posts everyday.

While in the office, I was able to pimp out my photo shoots, so booking those there were amazing as well! Life there was so good. The stars at night were out of this world. The milky way was visible every night and staring up at it from a bathtub filled with mystical water was a feeling of absolute bliss.

Okay, So I’ve told you how I got there and what I did. Now you should know more about Mystic. Mike has been owner of the property for 22 years. He put the bathtubs, the buses, and the cabins in. Oh I haven’t mentioned buses or cabins? Yeah….you can rent a bus or cabin to stay in. They are sweeeeet. I go to stay in Bertha for a couple nights when my tent was down for the count. A wind storm popped the pole right through the top. But not to worry, there is a seamstress on the property!

Let’s just fast forward to the festival. So many incredible people were there to help set up and make sure it went smoothly. Mike’s daughter, Mieka and her boyfriend Prescott are huge helpers, and they bring helpful friends too! It’s a little community of so many talented artists from clothing designers, jewelry makers, painters, dream-catcher makers, yogis and SO MANY positive vibes. More WWOOFers came and we were a well oiled machine preparing!

I had a spiritual moment listening to Trevor Green and his magical didgeridoo sounds. My job for the festival was checking in the artists, making sure they knew what accommodation was theirs, giving them bathroom keys and food tickets. But luckily I was free to witness Trevor Green. If you don’t know who he is, look him up!

I could go on and on about the incredible people I met and amazing times I had at Mystic Hot Springs. It will forever have a special place in my heart! After I left I took off with the Mystic Road Dogs….That story is up next :)

I’m a sucker for a good bathtub ;)
